Back Alley John - More a Feeling Than a Living (1995)


Last fall, former Sundae Sound engineer Rob Bartlett got in touch with us and offered up a pair of boxes of tapes of projects he'd recorded during his time at the notable recording studio. From 1980 to 2011, Sundae Sound was the birthplace of countless great recordings - so we were over the moon to have access a slice of that history. We're going to post a selection of tapes from those boxes over the coming weeks, focusing on those which were either official releases or are unoffical/production copies of broader interest. 

Nestled in one of the boxes from Rob was a tape labelled "Back Alley John," which turns out to be this 1995 release from the late local bluesman. By chance, we had picked up a copy of this tape earlier in the year, and are pleased to present it for your listening pleasure. Back Alley John was a fixture of the local blues scene, and sadly passed away in 2006. Here's the obituary from then, with some great history and memories:
