Infradig - Malaria (1991)

It's hard to tell if this second Infradig should be called spoken word or... a radio play. The latter is probably accurate - this looks like it was recorded for CJSW, and over its hour and a half is primarily narration, sound effects and ambient sounds.

Get the sickness here.

Infradig - Passing the Ballyhoo

Brad Struble also gave us some of Richard McDowell and Peter Moller's post-Rip Chords work. We're not sure of the date on this tape, but it reminds us a lot of David Byrne and Brian Eno's My Life in the Bush of Ghosts with its funky rhythms and samples.

Get it here.

MacLoud Brothers - At Home in a Way (1989)

Whew! Back into proper posts. Well, as proper as we at the CCPS get. Brad Struble told us that this tape was a Wade MacGregor effort. We're not sure how to categorize this - finding out that he continues to have a focus on sound design helps explain most of the tape's atmospheric sounds.

CCPS Miscellany: Elvis Costello - Document (1978)

We're ending our string of Miscellany posts from Brad Struble with this one, recorded live at the Jubilee Auditorium in 1978. We don't know much about this guy, or if he went on to do anything of note.

CCPS Miscellany: Demi Monde - Demo (1986)

You're probably wondering why this, a tape not recorded in Calgary and without any clear connections to our city, is showing up here. So were we, until our Master of All Things Trivial pointed out that drummer (and artist) Rita McKeough now resides in Calgary (and plays in the rather excellent Sleepy Panther).

We're at least good at justifying these posts, if nothing else.

CCPS Miscellany: Clifton Joseph and Devon Haughton - 10 Ft Henry's November 1984 (1984)

We're really padding out the Miscellany posts here. Today's post features De Dub Poets' Clifton Joseph and Devon Haughton, from a live show at Ten Foot Henry's.

Get it here.

CCPS Miscellany: Government and the Hummer Sisters - Nympho Warrior

Now this one, we KNOW we have to give this miscellany status. Brad Stuble tells us this is a live recording of Toronto bands the Government and the Hummer Sisters performing Nympo Warrior at the Alberta College of Art, from some time in the late 70's.

It seems like ACA would have been a perfect setting for this slice of art rock.

Eugene Chadbourne - New Solo Music (1983)

There was a bit of a debate about whether to flag this tape from avant garde guitarist Eugene Chadbourne as miscellany, but we've relented and are going to consider this a proper Calgary release because of the time he spent in Calgary (writing for the Herald, if you can believe it!). Plus, he continues to play somewhat regular shows here.

So, while we don't think this experimental tape was recorded in Calgary, we'll give it honourary status.

Murphy's Planet - The Lite and Dark Side of Murphy's Planet (1986)

Here's another from Brad Struble's collection, featuring Brad himself alongside Wade MacGregor. This  is certainly more art rock than punk rock - drum machines click away while saxophone, bass guitar and synthesizers create ambient textures.

Grab it here.

Rip Chords - Ripchords at National Hotel and live at Mac Ewan Hall (1984)

Brad Struble was kind enough to dig through his cassette collection and pass along a bunch of great 80's era stuff for us. We're starting here, with a live recording by 10 Foot Henry's regulars the Rip Chords. Except, uh, the recording's not from 10 Foot Henry. As you can probably tell by the title of this post. It's from, uh, the National. And Mac Hall.

Well. There you have it.
