Kilgore Trout - We Fish You a Merry Christmas (1993)

Here's another one from Shelley Boettcher that, sadly, is missing a j-card. And is completely out-of-season.

We're assuming that the membership of Kilgore Trout on this is the same as on the other tape of theirs that we've featured. Maybe it's not. No j-card, no facts. That's how we roll.

Anyways, enjoy the +12 weather today with this un-seasonal tape.

Naykid Pink Songs - Naykid Pink Songs (1991)

Former VOX writer and current wine writer Shelley Boettcher got in touch with us about a bunch of tapes that she had, and we were pretty excited to find this in the mix. We've often wondered if Mark David Stewart has always been the way he is (i.e.: quirky!). And the answer, at least according to this tape, is: yes.

We're actually at a loss for anything else to say about this. If you're familiar with the rest of Mark David Stewart's output, you know what to expect. If you're not, you, uh... don't?

Get Naykid here.

Crow Eater - Sea Sick EP (2012)

Wow. We forgot how heavy Crow Eater are until we heard this, their second tape (released last year; yeah, we know, we're slow. We've gotten overly-used to posting stuff up to 30 years old, so give us a break, okay?). Their hardcore is as brutal as the packaging of this tape is beautiful.

Get this from the band's bandcamp, if you're so inclined.

Flaccid - Flaccid (2012)

You know, it's when we hear bands like Flaccid that we realize we're getting old. We're having a hard time unpacking this tape, so we'll fall back on local hack Josiah Hughes' description of the tape: "a 13-minute gut punch of snarling, twisted, evil hardcore".

Want to know what that means? You can grab a listen through this link here.

Pussy Monster - Pussy Monster (1993)

We got so busy with the Ben Sherazi and Chris Carlson saga, that we almost forgot about the other Vindicators. So here we go...

Drummer Bryce Dunn moved to Vancouver, where he's played with a few amazing bands: the Smugglers, the New Town Animals and the Tranzmitors. Daaren stayed here for a bit longer (before spilling for Seattle for a for a few years), and somehow ended up playing in the less garage-y and more rock-y Pussy Monster.

This tape looks like it came out just ahead of the band's one 7" single (the second Rotoflex release), and  mostly comprises tracks from that single and the Bloodbath compilation. What is a real treat on here is a cover of the Coughin' Nails' "Pandora's Sin."

Keep your motor clean!

Big Gulp - Hot Asian Caesar (1992)

We meant to put this up earlier, but quite frankly, we've been listening to the LI 150s and have been a bit reluctant to go on to this. We're snowed in at the CCPS offices today, so we no longer really have an excuse.

This Big Gulp tape looks like it precedes the one we posted almost exactly three years ago, even though it has the same year. Maybe the presence of Ronnie Champagne as producer here kind of helps explain why these guys ended up sounding so much like Jane's Addiction. That and, well, it was the early 90's, after all.

We just found this article by James Muretich, which gives a bit more insight into what made Big Gulp so heavy: Jane's Addiction made frontman Ben Sherazi horny.

Gulp!
