Ded. Souls - Too (1993)

Ded Souls - Too

Thanks to Steve Elaschuk for hooking us up with some pre-Wagbeard/Earthquake Pills/Great Evil Chris Temple. We can't remember much/anything about Ded. Souls. And we're tired, so we're going to dispense with the usual makingstuffup schtick.

This tape was the "swansong" so to speak of Ded Souls. The one thing I always enjoyed about my old band was that there were no limitations, no marketing plan, no genre left untouched... we all kicked in on all aspects of making things happen: songwriting(jamming on riffs, everyone was responsible to create there own complimenting parts), whether it was booking gigs( Doug and Chris moreso on the bar front, I always got calls for all-ages stuff, Julie lived with other bands thus staying sharp on multi-bills...we all took care of this), jamspaces(we all contributed spaces when required),Chris had a PA payment plan I remember L&M were looking for a couple payments and we were jamming right across the street from their old location on 17th), Artwork(Julie worked in a printshop and had a great graphic art talent, designing all of our merch and in-lays), we all split up any money made four ways and kicked in when we had expenses, four ways. Chris and I screened our first batch of shirts on the floor of his apartment, Doug,Chris and I would go postering many times late at night advertising our gigs, Julie would make stickers, in-lays while not doing big orders at work, we never had a problem selling any merch we made and moved cassettes on consignment at Skater's, The Record Store, anywhere... with no problem... and yes as Doug states in the in-lay of this last tape... "the Growth of a Beard can weaken the Soul" indeed did... Upon release of "Too" Chris was on his way across Canada with the great Wagbeard... at the time I was out of sorts... but all I can do now is smile...

Thank you Gene, for doing this... I am beside myself!... you are a genius! Oh and by the way we are looking into compiling all of the studio tracks, live un-released covers and original songs, as well as vid footage on an enhanced cd perhaps by 2011... We will probably set up a Facebook group for anyone thats interested... and its all because someone like you cared to post us and help us remember...

I can't believe I found Too. Years ago, I had the cassette tape. I loved the tape so much I transfered it to CD. It was really bad quality because the tape was played so much, and tonight I thought I'd give the CD a listen. You think I could find the CD? Of course not.

Finding the Ded Souls on here made my Saturday night. They were Calgary's best band back in the day and I truly miss their music. The 90s I think was the pinnicle for the Calgary music scene.

I hope the band members are doing well for themselves these days. If they read this, I just want you to know you were a fantastic band and I loved seeing you live.

Cheers,

Steve

Hey Steve
Thanks for your comment and it’s so rad to hear that we are still being listened to! I loved being part of Ded. Souls and the magic that happened when all 4 of us played. All the best to you and any other Ded. Souls fans out there! Much love, Julie
