Glider - Umbrella EP (1995)

Glider

Glider were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. Based on the songwriting partnership of John Beatty (vocals, guitar) and Rob Virdis (guitar), the band also included Gary Vickers (bass) and Rene Chayer (drums). Critics have called them one of the most important alternative rock bands to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s, and the group has had major influence on subsequent artists. Beatty's lovelorn tales of alienation found an audience amongst youth culture bored by the ubiquitous synthesizer-pop bands of the early 1980s, while Virdis' complex melodies helped return guitar-based music to popularity.

We're not kidding!

Oh boy, this is awesome! Thanks a million for posting Glider--no idea what happened to my copy, but I've been itching to hear it again. John was, and presumably still is, a great talent. Funny guy, too, and sharp dresser. I don't know how to use the Facebooks--anyone know what John's up to these days? It's probably been 10 years since I last ran into him...at a death-metal gig at Mac Hall, probably. JB loves his metal--as anyone who saw Glider slay(er) (ugh, sorry) at "Black Sabbath cover night" at the Ship/Anchor in the early '90s can attest.

Oh Beatty is still alive and strumming. He's into ska these days by all accounts and dating a gorgeous soul songstress but still in Cowtown - keep your eyes peeled
